NCC to construct four-lane road and tunnel in Norway
08 January 2024
NCC has been commissioned by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration to construct a new road and tunnel between Breivika and Lerstad in Ålesund Municipality in Norway.
NCC is to construct route E136, a 3.3-km, four-lane road that will primarily pass through a tunnel.
The road, valued at approximately SEK 1.5 billion (US$146 million), is the main part of the major Bypakke Ålesund infrastructure project, which is an initiative to reduce road traffic in Ålesund.
In addition to alleviating congestion on the current road network, the new road will also reduce travel time and enhance accessibility and road safety for public transport users.
“This is a very important project for both the Norwegian Public Roads Administration and Bypakke Ålesund. The new road will ensure efficient and future-oriented traffic flows into central Ålesund,” says Kjell Inge Davik, Director of the Construction Division at the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.
Kenneth Nilsson, Head of NCC Infrastructure, added, “This project is particularly well aligned with NCC’s expertise in road and tunnel construction, and together with the Norwegian Public Roads Administration we have set the prerequisites for a successful partnership. We are delighted to have been entrusted with this task and look forward to commencing work on this important project.”
Construction will begin in the spring of 2024, with an expected completion date of 2027. The order value registered in the Infrastructure business area in the first quarter of 2024.
