Webber wins $1.2bn worth of contracts in North America

Construction firm Webber has won 10 new construction and maintenance projects in North America totalling US$1.2 billion.
Houston-based Webber is a subsidiary of European infrastructure company Ferrovial and has won a series of projects related to roadway improvements, bridge construction and water treatment plants.
The 10 contracts include two in Texas for the Texas Department of Transportation:
- IH 27 in Randall County: $312.5 million: The project for the Texas Department of Transportation, extends 6.9 miles, adding an additional lane to IH 27 in Randall County. Upon completion, it will help support the increased freight traffic in the “Ports to Plains” corridor between Laredo, TX and Denver, CO.
- Highway (US) 60 Parmer County in Friona: $69.9 million: The 5.3-mile-long project for the Texas Department of Transportation involves constructing acceleration and deceleration lanes, a bridge deck, and mechanically stabilised earth (MSE) walls. This project will allow a safer entry to US 60 for the high volume of industrial and heavy vehicles that operate in the area.
Also in Texas, the company’s waterworks division, PLW Waterworks, won contracts including:
- Walnut Branch Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) and Geronimo Creek WWTP: $178 million. One of the largest waterworks construction projects in Texas, the scope of work consists of deconstructing and decommissioning the Walnut Branch Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) and expanding the Geronimo Creek WWTP in Seguin. Construction of the Geronimo Creek WWTP includes converting it to produce a 12 million gallon per day (MGD) average daily flow.
- Paul Phillips Water Purification Plant: Estimated $90 million. This Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) project consists of the expansion of the Dr. Paul Phillips Water Purification Plant from 12 MGD to 18 MGD for the City of Weatherford.
- South Water Treatment Plant Expansion: Estimated $58 million. In Tomball, this CMAR project will expand the treatment plant from 1.5 MGD to 3 MGD and replace the current treatment method with the more effective process of an aeration basin system.
Webber has also won two projects with the Florida Department of Transportation:
- I-10 at SR 95 in Escambia County: $236.3 million. The work includes realignment and widening to add lanes, removing one existing roadway bridge, improving three existing roadway bridges, and constructing eight new bridges.
- I-10 at SR 10 (U.S. 90A) in Escambia County: $55.5 million. This project will replace a bridge on SR 8 (I-10) over SR 10 (U.S. 90A).
Meanwhile it has won a deal with the Tennesee Department of Transportation to maintain 286 centerline miles in the Nashville area. This is the company’s first contract in the state:
- Nashville: $66 million. The scope of work includes maintenance and roadway management in Bedford, Cheatham, Dickson, Giles, Hickman, Humphreys, Marshall, Maury, Rutherford, Smith, Williamson, and Wilson Counties.
In Canada, the company was awarded two contracts to support heavily trafficked roadways:
- Niagara: $102 million. Niagara Falls sees an estimated 20 million visitors each year, with two border crossing bridges seeing an estimated 7.6 million vehicles and 2 million commercial trucks. The contract with the Ministry of Transportation Ontario includes planning and performing quality, environmental, and safety management, incident response, traffic management, road patrol, roadway maintenance, and winter maintenance.
- Toronto: $102 million. Webber will perform the winter maintenance of the 407 ETR.
