A new smart safety helmet that its manufacturers claim is a ‘world first’ can detect falls and impacts and automatically call for help if needed.

Swedish safety equipmant company Båstadgruppen’s Guardio brand has launched the new Armet Pro industrial helmet.

The helmet features Mips (multi-directional impact protection system), a technology that reduces the risk of brain injury in the event of impact, as well as a Quin intelligent sensor.

The sensor measures motion and forces in three dimensions 1,000 times per second and in the event of a fall, an object falling from height or any other type of impact, it analyses what has happened across a range of parameters to determine whether help is needed.

If the intelligent sensor determines that a safety threshold has been breached then it will send out an automatic alert to registered contacts to detail the location and nature of the detected event.

The helmet can also track a worker’s timely return to a safe zone and send out emergency alerts in the event the worker does not return as expected.

The helmet has been developed with insights from users in Swedish construction company Arcona, part of Veidekke.

Björn Nauclér, health safety manager at Arcona said, “We are excited to be a part of the development process for the Armet PRO. Safety is a top priority for us, and collaborating with Guardio to test and evaluate the new helmet allows us to contribute valuable insights to ensure the highest level of safety and performance. We look forward to seeing how this product can enhance safety on our construction sites.”

Construction Briefing has requested further details about the cost of the new helmet and the markets in which it will be available.
